MATTEO THUN

Background
Matteo Thun was born in South Tyrol and has achieved worldwide celebrity status as a designer and successful architect. At the tender age of 21, he was involved in Oskar Kokoschka's "School of Seeing" in Salzburg.He studied architecture in Florence until 1975, and then in 1978 went to Milan to join Ettore Sottsass's team of designers. Three years later he co-founded the famous Memphis Group, took a teaching post at Vienna‘s School of Applied Art and then opened his own studio in Milan. In the early 1990s Matteo Thun was the artistic director for Swatch, and later took on design briefs for Bulgari, WMF and Villeroy & Boch.
In addition, the Matteo Thun studio has completed many prestigious and prize-winning architectural projects, such as the interior design of the Side Hotel in Hamburg, the Radisson SAS Hotel in Frankfurt and the Nhow Hotel in Milan, not forgetting architectural work and design for the new spa in Merano and the Vigilius Mountain Resort. Matteo Thun is a member of the Design Hall of Fame in New York and the Royal Association of British Architects.
